Let the principle be = 'x'

Rate :- 5%

Time :- 1 year

Simple interest :- Rs. 40

Now,

Simple interest = \frac{P×R×T}{100}

=> 40 = \frac{P×5×1}{100}

=> 40 = \frac{5P}{100}

=> 40 × 100 = 5P

=> 4000 = 5P

=> P = \frac{4000}{5}

=> P = \frac{\cancel{4000}}{\cancel{5}}

=> P = Rs. 800
