tan^2 x - 5 tan x + 4 = 0

Could be factored into

(tan x - 4) (tan x -1) = 0

This implies that tan x = 4 or tan x = 1

If tan x = 4 then sec^2 x = 1 + tan^2 x = 1 + 16 = 17

OR cos^2 x = 1/17

So cos x = ± 1/√17 =====> sin x = ± 4/√17 since we need sin^2 x + cos^2 x = 1

And if tan x = 1 then cos x = ± 1/√2 ===> sin x = ± 1/√2.
