in a right angled triangle,

tan x = opposite/adjacent

hypotenuse = ?

using pythagoras theorem,

hypotenuse ^2 = opposite ^2 + adjacent ^2

= 9+16=25

hypotenuse = 5

sin x = opposite/hypotenuse

sin x = 3/5

cos x = adjacent/hypotenuse

cos x = 4/5
