Answer:
Method - 1 : ( Exact process )
Let first number be ' x '
Second number be ' y '
The sum of two numbers is 64
➠ x + y = 64
➠ y = 64 - x ... (1)
Second number is 16 less than the first
➠ y = x - 16
Sub. (1) ,
➠ 64 - x = x - 16
➠ x + x = 64 + 16
➠ 2x = 80
➠ x = 40
Sub. x value in (1) , \;
➠ y = 64 - 40
➠ y = 24
First number , x = 40 ★
Second number , y = 24 ★
Method - 2 :
Let first number be ' x '
second number is 16 less than the first , so
Second number = ' x - 16 '
The sum of two numbers is 64 ,
➽ x + ( x - 16 ) = 64
➽ x + x - 16 = 64
➽ 2x = 64 + 16
➽ 2x = 80
➽ x = 40
First number , x = 40 ★
Second number , (x-16) = 24 ★
