x -  \frac{1}{x}  =  \frac{ {x}^{2}  - 1}{x}

 \frac{ {x}^{2} - 1 }{x}  = 0

 {x}^{2}  - 1 = (x + 1)(x - 1) \\ x = 1 \:  \:  \:  \: x =  - 1

4x +  \frac{1}{4}  = 4 \times 1 +  \frac{1}{4}  =  \frac{16 + 1}{4}  =  \frac{17}{4}

4x +  \frac{1}{4}  = 4 \times  - 1 +  \frac{1}{4}  =  \frac{ - 16 + 1}{4}  =  \frac{ - 15}{4}
