If  (y^{2} + \frac{1}{y^{2} } ) = 27
Find
i) y + \frac{1}{y}

ii) y - \frac{1}{y}

i. Firstly, re-write the the equation as y² +1/y² -2 = 27 - 2

=y² + 1/y² -2 = (5)²         .......(1)

=(y - 1/y)²=(5)² [ A² + B² +2AB = (A + B)²]

=y-1/y = 5

ii. Sqaure the expression y + 1/y

=(y+1/y)²

=(y² + 1/y² +2)

=(27 + 2) [from equation 1]

=29
