$3a + 5b + 7 =0---(1)$

$a + 4b + 7 = 0 ---(2)$

Subtract them,

$-7b - 14 = 0$

$-7b = 14$

$b = 14/-7$

$b = -2$

Substitute b = -2 in any equation,

$a + 4(-2) + 7 = 0$

$a - 8 + 7 = 0$

$a - 1 =0$

$a = 1$
