xy=144. (Equ. 2nd)

x+y=25
x=25-y
put the value of X in equ. 2nd
xy=144
(25-y)*y=144
25y-y² =144
-y²+25y-144=0
-(Y²-25y+144)=0
Y²-25y+144=0 ( factorise it )
Y²-16y-9y+144=0
y(y-16)-9(y-16)=0
(y-16)(y-9)=0
y-16=0
y=16. y-9=0 y=9.

put a single value of Y in equ. 1st
x+y=25
x+9=25. (y=9)
x=25-9
x=16.
