Complete Question :- Line Through the Points (-2, 6) and (4, 8) is perpendicular to the line-joining the points (8, 12) and (x, 24) then find the value of ‘x’ . ?

Solution :-

we know that,

  • Slope of a line passing through (a , b) and (c , d) = (d - b)/(c - a) .
  • When two lines are ⟂ , product of there slope is equal to (-1) .

So,

→ Slope of line passing through Points (-2, 6) and (4, 8) = (8 - 6) / (4 - (-2)) = 2/6 = 1/3

and,

→ Slope of line passing through Points (8, 12) and (x, 24) = (24 - 12)/(x - 8) = 12/(x - 8) .

then,

→ (1/3) * {12/(x - 8) = -1

→ 12/(x - 8) = (-3)

→ x - 8 = (-4)

→ x = (-4) + 8

→ x = 4 (Ans.)
