Refractive index of water with respect to glass, n_{wg}=\dfrac{1}{9/8}=\dfrac{8}{9}

Explanation:

Given that,

The refractive index of water wrt air is, n_1=1.5

The refractive index of air wrt water is, n_2=\dfrac{4}{3}

We know that the refractive index of air wrt to water is given by the reciprocal of the refractive index of water wrt to air.

 n_{aw}=\dfrac{1}{(4/3)}=\dfrac{3}{4}

Refractive index of glass wrt water is = (Refractive index of glass with respect to air) × (refractive index of air with respect to water)

= \dfrac{3}{2}\times \dfrac{3}{4}=\dfrac{9}{8}

Refractive index of water with respect to glass, n_{wg}=\dfrac{1}{9/8}=\dfrac{8}{9}
