Let the RMS Velocity of gas-1 be= V1, at temperature T1
The RMS Velocity of gas-2 be= V2 at temperature T2 Now T1 K= 3T2K
Therefore V1 : V2
= √(3RT1/M) :√(3RT2/M)
= √(3RTx3T2/M) : √(3RT2/M)
= √3 :√1 = √3 : 1
= 1.732 : 1
So when the temperature of the gas increases 3- times in Absolute scale of temperature. ie in Kelvin scale, the RMS Velocity will increase by √3- times. That is by 1.732 times.
