Answer:

Given

\leadsto If the addition of five consecutive numbers is 270.

To Find

\leadsto What is the sum of the 1st and 3rd number.

Solution

Let the 1st no be x

2nd no be x + 1

3rd no be x + 2

4th no be x + 3

5th no be x + 4

According to the question,

\implies x + (x + 1) + (x + 2) + (x + 3) + (x + 4) = 270

\implies x + x + 1 + x + 2 + x + 3 + x + 4 = 270

\implies x + x + x + x + x + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 270

\implies 5x + 10 = 270

\implies 5x = 270 - 10

\implies 5x = 260

\implies x = \dfrac{260}{5}

\implies x = 52

We get the value of x = 52

Then,

  • 1st = 52
  • 2nd = 52 + 1 = 53
  • 3rd = 52 + 2 = 54
  • 4th = 52 + 3 = 55
  • 5th = 52 + 4 = 56

\mapsto We got the five consecutive numbers that is 52, 53, 54, 55, 56

\mapsto But in the question we have to find the sum of 1st and 3rd number,

\implies 52 + 54

\implies 106

\therefore The number will be 106.
