This is a pretty good question.

So we know that the level of water can't be changed but still we say we have scarcity of water. This is because less than 1% of the total water is pure, all other water is either salty or contaminated hence not suitable for drinking.

Even in this 1% available water, 0.78% is in form of glaciers and ice.
So you can see very little amount of water is available for drinking which we are using at a rapid rate !

Steps to conserve water:-

1. Using rain water harvesting methods.
2. Re-using of water for other purposes.
3. Minimize the usage of chemicals and prevent their release in water

97% of water are salt water and not fit for human consumption.2%of water glaciers and ice caps.Only 1% is for human consumption. The increasing population is causing water scarcity. Water pollution is making water unfit.
Few steps to conserve water are:
1. Use less water and avoid wastage
2.Practice rain water harvesting
3.Reduce water consumption in irrigation by using efficient methods such as drip irrigation
