The work is a scalar. It will depend on the magnitude of the applied force and on the direction between the force and the object's displacement. Depending on the angle between the two vectors, the work can be positive, negative or zero. F has a component in the same direction of the displacement vector (0 < θ < 90o).
What will be the angle between force and displacement of work done is negative?

In this case, the force of gravity is acting in the downward direction. But, the displacement of the body is in the upward direction. Since the angle between the force and displacement is 180o, the work done by the gravitational forceon the body is negative

Shrirao: i wants to camplete the fill in the blank so what should i write
niya25: W=F.s=(Force)x(Displacement)x( cosθ)
Shrirao: no I think it is not a right answer
niya25: the value of cos 180 is negative -1
Shrirao: sorry
