If the angle between the axis of polariser and the analyser is 45°, write the ratio of the intensities of original light and the transmitted light after passing through the analyser.

Let I' and I be the transmitted light and original light

According to Malu's law

I' = I cos²∅

given:  ∅ = 45°

I' = I (cos 45° )²

I' = I ( 1 / 2 )

I / I' = 2

I : I' = 2 : 1

Hence you got the ratio !
