Explanation:

The normal is perpendicular to the reflecting surface. If the angle between the reflecting surface and the incident ray is 40degree, then the angle of incidence will be :

40+ i =90

i = 90 - 40

i = 50 degrees

And according to the law of reflection of light,

Angle of incidence = angle of reflection

i = r

Therefore, r =50 degrees
