We are given the side of the square

side = x units

Also, we are given the base of the triangle

base = x units

We also know that the area of square is equal to the area of triangle

area of square = side^2

area of triangle = \frac{1}{2}\times base\times height

let the height (altitude) be h

area of square = area of triangle

side^2 = \frac{1}{2}\times base\times height

x\times x = \frac{1}{2}\times x\times h

cancelling x both sides

x=\frac{1}{2}\times h

2x = h

Therefore, altitude is 2 times the base of triangle

\boxed{\textbf{Altitude = 2x}}
