Isosceles right angled triangle means the base b and the height h are equal.

So area = 1/2 * b * h  = 32 cm²
              = 1/2 * b² = 32

b = 8 cm,   h = 8 cm
Hypotenuse = b√2 cm = 8 √2 cm
Since it is isosceles, and right angled, the median joining the midpoint of hypotenuse and opposite vertex is perpendicular to the hypotenuse.

  Length of this altitude = hypotenuse / 2 = 8/√2 cm

Length of the longest altitude = b = h = 8 cm.
