Step-by-step explanation:

1/2|1(3-4)+2(4-2)+a(2-3)|=8

1/2|(-1)+4+(-a)|=8

3-a/2=8

3-a=16

a=-13

Given :

  • Coordinates of A = ( 1 , 2 )

  • Coordinates of B = ( 2 , 3 )

  • Coordinates of C = ( a , 4 )

  • Area of triangle = 8 unit²

To Find :

  • Value of point a

Solution :

★ Area = 1/2 [ x₁ ( y₂ - y₃ ) + x₂ ( y₃ - y₁ ) + x₃ ( y₁ - y₂ )

Here

x₁ = 1 x₂ = 2 x₃ = a

y₁ = 2 y₂ = 3 y₃ = 4

Substitute values in formula

→ 8 = 1/2 [ 1 ( 3 - 4 ) + 2 ( 4 - 2 ) + a ( 2 - 3 )

→ 8 × 2 = - 1 + 4 - a

→ 16 = 3 - a

→ - a = 16 - 3

→ a = - 13
