If the Arithmetic mean of 10,7,8,4,2,x is 6, then find the value of x.

Number of terms = 6

The arithmetic mean of the terms = 6

Sum of the terms = 10 + 7 + 8 + 4 + 2 + x

= 31 + x

Mean = Sum of the terms / No. of terms

Mean = 6 = 31 + x / 6

or, 6 × 6 = 31 + x

or, 36 - 31 = 5 = x

The value of x is 5.
