Given :- If the arithmetic mean of 5, 4, x, x + 3, 9 and 8 is 6, find out value of x. ?
Solution :-
we know that,
- Arthmetic mean = average = (sum of observation) / (Total number of observation ).
given that,
→ observations are =5, 4, x, (x+3), 9 and 8.
So,
→ sum of observation = 5 + 4 + x + (x + 3) + 9 + 8 = (29 + 2x)
→ Total number of observation = 6
Now, we have given that, Arthmetic mean is 6.
Putting values we get,
→ Arthmetic mean = (sum of observation) / (Total number of observation ) .
→ 6 = (29+2x)/6
cross - multiply,
→ 6 * 6 = 29 + 2x
→ 36 = 29+ 2x
→ 2x = 36 - 29
→ 2x = 7
dividing both sides by 2,
→ x = 3.5 (Ans.)
Hence, value of x is 3.5 .
