Given:

Observations: 40, 10, 25, 20, 35 and 6. Average of the given observations is 25.

To find:

The value of x.

Note:

Instead of saying it as average we can say it was mean. Both mean and average are the same.

Solution:

Mean / Average = Sum of given observations

——————————————

Total number of observations

25 = 40 + 10 + 25 + 20 + 35 + x

—————————————

6

25 * 6 = 130 + x

150 = 130 + x

x = 150 - 130

x = 20.

Conclusion:

Therefore, the missing observation i.e x = 20.
