If the average score of 45 students in an exam is 12 , the average of those who passed the exam is 14 and the looser are 5 , how many students have passed the exam

Let the number of students who passed be x and those who failed be y,

14x + 5y = 540

x + y = 45

y = 45 -x

14x + 5(45-x) = 14x + 225 - 5x = 540

9x = 540 - 225

9x = 315

x = 35

Therefore, y = 10

Therefore, those who passes are 35 students.
