Correct Question :

If the banking angle of a curved road is \bf{tan^{-1}(3/5)} and radius of the curvature of road is 6m. Then the speed for vehicles on the curved road will be

Given :

Angle of banking (tanθ) = 3/5

Radius of curvature = 6m

To Find :

The maximum safe speed of vehicle on the curved road.

Solution :

■ Banking of tracks (roads) : The maximum velocity with which a vehicle (in the absence of friction) can negotiate a circular road of radius r and banked at an angle θ is given by

  • v² = r × g × tanθ

→ r denotes radius of curvature

→ g denotes acc. due to gravity

By substituting the given values;

➠ v² = r × g × tanθ

➠ v² = 6 × 10 × (3/5)

➠ v² = 180/5

➠ v² = 36

v = 6 m/s
