construction : draw a line AE parallel to BC

soln.,

so, ABCD is parallelogram

so, AB = EC = 6cm

DE = DC - EC

so, DE = 4cm

now,

area of ∆ADE = 1/2×DE ×height

= 1/2×4×4

= 2×5 = 10cm²

area of ||gmABCE = EC×height

= 6×5 = 30cm²

area of trapezium= area of ∆ADE+

area of ||gm ABCE

= 10 + 30 = 40cm²
