Q:

If the C.I. on a sum for 2 years at 12 1/2 % per annum is Rs. 510, the S.I. on the same sum at the same rate for the same period of time is   ?

A) Rs. 580B) Rs. 480C) Rs. 550D) Rs. 470

Answer:   B) Rs. 480

Explanation:

Let the sum be Rs. P. Then,

[P(1+252x100)2-P]= 510

P[(98)2- 1] = 510.

Sum = Rs. 1920

So, S.I. = (1920 x 25 x 2) / (2 x 100) = Rs. 480

Here is your answer.
Let the Sum = P
R = 25/2% p.a
T = 2 years
CI = Rs 510
As we know
CI = P{(1+R/100)^n- 1}
510 = p((1 +  \frac{25}{2 \times 100} ) {}^{2}  - 1) \\ 510 = p(( \frac{9}{8})  {}^{2}  - 1) \\ 510 = p( \frac{81 - 64}{64} ) \\ p =  \frac{510 \times 64}{17}  \\ p = 1920
Now we have to find Simple interest
As we know
SI = PRT/100
 =  \frac{1920 \times 25 \times 2}{2 \times 100}  \\  =  \frac{1920}{4}  \\  = 480 \: rupees
Hence Option (B) Rs 480 is your answer
