Plant cell wall performs all of these basic functions in plants, I am mentioning them in points:

Provide support and limited plasticity

Prevent loss of water

Protection from insects and pathogens

Filter

Prevent over expansion caused by too much water

Keep the shape of the plant

Allow plants to grow to great heights

so it is easy to figure that if a cell wall is absent then these poor creatures who are already not able to move and are localized without any well developed immune system will just perish!

Hope that helps!..
