Solution,

We know that,

$Circumference = 2 \pi r$

→ $44 = 2 \times \frac{22}{7} \times r$

→ $r = \frac{7 \times 44}{2\times 22}$

→ $r = 7 \ cm$

Then, 

$Area = \pi r^{2}$

→ $= \frac{22}{7} \times 7 \times 7$

→ $= 22 \times 7$

→ $= 154 \ cm^{2}$

Therefore area of the circle is 154 cm².
