The answer is negative.

Given,

Negative coefficient correlation between x and y.

To Find,

Whether the regression coefficient is positive or negative.

Solution,

If the coefficient correlation between x and y is negative then the regression coefficient is also negative.

Regression Coefficient (r) = √bₓᵧ × √bᵧₓ

∴ If bₓᵧ and bᵧₓ are negative then the formula becomes :

r = - √bₓᵧ × √bᵧₓ

A regression correlation of -1 represents a perfectly negative correlation while a regression correlation of 1 indicates a perfect positive correlation.

Answer:

The increase in the first variable will cause the decrease in the second variable.

Explanation:

In a regression model where the intercept is negative implies that the model is overestimating on an average the y values thereby a negative correction in the predicted values is needed.

The constant term in linear regression analysis seems to be such a simple thing. Also known as the y intercept, it is simply the value at which the fitted line crosses the y-axis.
