Compound Ratio :

• A compound ratio of ratios is obtained by multiplying two or more ratios as their term-wise.
• For example, if a:b and x:y are two ratios then compound ratio of the ratios is ax : by
• Compound Ratio of 1:2 and 2:4 = 2(1) : 2(4) = 2:8

Given ratios 2 : 3 and 4 : 5  

⇒ Compound ratio of 2 : 3 and 4 : 5 = 2(8) : 3(5) = 16 : 15  

Given that  the compound ratio of 2:3::4:5=24:x  

⇒  16 : 15 = 24 : x  

⇒  16/15 = 24/x

⇒  16x = 360

⇒  x = 360/16 = 22.5  

The value of x = 22.5
