Concept:

A quadrant is a region defined by the two axes (x-axis and y-axis) of the coordinate system creating four different spaces.

Given:

The point M(-2,9) can be expressed as (1+x, y²), y>0.

Find:

We are asked to find the quadrants in which the points P, Q, R & S, lies.

Solution:

As M(-2,9) = (1+x,y²)

∴ 1 + x =-2 ⇒ x = -3

∴ 9 = y² ⇒ y = 3

∴ The given points will be

  • P(y,x) = (3,-3) ⇒ 4th quadrant
  • Q(2,x) = (2,-3) ⇒ 4th quadrant
  • R(x²,y-1) = (9,2) ⇒ 1st quadrant
  • S(2x,-3y) = (-6,-9) ⇒ 3rd quadrant

Hence, P,Q,R,&S lies in 4, 4, 1 & 3 quadrant respectively.
