Answer:

Let cost of 1 table be x rupees

And cost of 1 chair be y rupees

therefore , cost of 5 tables =5x

cost of 8 chairs= 8y

and 5x-8y=156

this is the linear equation in two variables x and y that represents the statement.

Also given that one chair is 240 rs. Therfore cost of 1 table would be x= (156+8(240)
