ANSWER:-

Loss percent = 37.5%

GIVEN:-

Cost price of 10 chairs = selling price of 16 chairs.

TO FIND:-

The gain or loss percent?

SOLUTION:-

Let the CP of 1 chair be x

CP of 10 chairs = 10x

SP of 16 chairs = 10x

SP of 1 chair = 10x/16 = 5x/8

FORMULA TO FIND LOSS :-

 \sf \: Loss = CP - SP

SOLVING BY APPLYING THE FORMULA:-

 \rightarrow  \sf \: x  -  \frac{5}{8} x

 \rightarrow  \sf \: \frac{8x - 5x}{8}

 \rightarrow  \sf \: \frac{3x}{8}

FORMULA TO FIND LOSS PERCENT:

  \sf\frac{loss}{cp}  \times 100

SOLVING BY APPLYING THE FORMULA:-

 \rightarrow  \sf \: \frac{ \frac{3x}{8} }{x}   \times 100

\rightarrow  \sf \: \frac{ \frac{3 \cancel{x}}{8} }{ \cancel{x}}   \times 100

  \rightarrow  \sf \: \frac{3}{8}  \times 100

 \rightarrow  \sf \cancel{\frac{3}{4}  \times 50}

 \rightarrow  \sf \: \frac{3}{2}  \times 25

  \rightarrow  \sf \: \frac{75}{2}

 \rightarrow  \sf \:37.5\%

 \sf \: loss \: percent = 37.5\%

So , gain percent = 37.5%

To find,

  • whether it is gain% or loss% ?

Given that:-

  • C.P of 10 chairs = S.P of 16 chairs

Solution:-

\rm\dfrac{\frac{3x}{8} }{x} \times 100\\ \\\rm\dfrac{3}{8} \times 100\\ \\\rm\dfrac{3}{4} \times 50\\ \\\rm\dfrac{3}{2} \times 25\\ \\\rm\dfrac{75}{2}=37.5 \%
