1.8

Given:

Co-variance between X and Y = 9.4

Variance of series X                  = 10.6

Variance of series Y                  = 2.5

To find:

Coefficient of correlation

Formula:

Coefficient of correlation = \frac{\sum xy}{N\sigma_{x} \sigma_{y}  }

Covariance    = \frac{\sum xy}{N } = 9.4

Variance of x = 10.6 = \sigma_{x} = \sqrt{10.6}

Variance of y = 2.5  = \sigma_{y} = \sqrt{2.5}

Coefficient of correlation = \frac{9.4}{\sqrt{10.6*2.5} }

                                          = \frac{9.4}{\sqrt{26.5} }

                                          = \frac{9.4}{5.14}

                                          = 1.8
