Given:

The difference between S.I. and C.I. = Rs. 72

The rate of interest = 12%

Time period = 2 years

To find:

The amount

Solution:

The formula to find the difference between compound interest and simple interest on a certain principal and at certain rate of interest for 2 years is as follows:

\boxed{\bold{D\:=\:P\:\times\:[\frac{R}{100} ]^2}}

By substituting the value of the D i.e., difference and R i.e., rate of interest in the above formula, we will find the value of P i.e., principal.

72\:=\:P\:\times\:[\frac{12}{100} ]^2

72\:=\:P\:\times\:[\frac{144}{10000} ]

P\:=\:[\frac{72\:\times\:10000}{144} ]

P\:=\:Rs.\:5000

Finding the amount for Simple Interest:

P = Rs. 5000

R = 12%

T = 2 years

S.I. = \frac{PRT}{100} = \frac{5000\times 12\times 2}{100}  = Rs. \:1200

Amount = P + S.I. = Rs. 5000 + Rs. 1200 = Rs. 6200

Finding the amount for Compound Interest:

P = Rs. 5000

R = 12%

n = 2 years

\therefore Amount = P\times [1+\frac{R}{100}]^n = 5000\times [1+\frac{12}{100}]^2  = 5000\times [\frac{112}{100}]^2=5000\:\times\:1.2544 = \underline{\bold{Rs. \:6272}}
