Distance between two points A(2, -2) and B(-1, x)

d =  \sqrt{ { (x_{2} -  x_{1})  }^{2} +  { (y_{2} -  y_{1}) }^{2}  }

5 =  \sqrt{ {( - 1 - 2)}^{2} +  {(x  + 2)}^{2}  }

Squaring on both sides,

25 =  {( - 3)}^{2}  +  {(x + 2)}^{2}

 {(x + 2)}^{2}  = 25 - 9

 {x}^{2}  + 4 + 4x = 16

 {x}^{2}  + 4x - 12 = 0

 {x}^{2}  - 2x + 6x - 12 = 0

(x  + 6)(x - 2) = 0

\boxed{x = 2 \: or \:  - 6}

Here x can be either 2 or -6

Have a good day!
