The value of p is 4 and -4

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : The distance between (4,p) and (1,0) is 5 units

To find: The value of p

As we know the distance formula between two points

d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

where (x_1,y_1) \text { and }(x_2,y_2) are the coordinated of points

As the distance between given two points is 5 unit

therefore

5=\sqrt{(1-4)^2+(0-p)^2}

Squaring both side and solving this we get '

5^2=(\sqrt{(-3)^2+(-p)^2}) \\\\\Rightarrow 25= 9+p^2\\\\\Rightarrow 25-9=p^2\\\\\Rightarrow 16=p^2

Therefore  p = 4 or p = -4
