Answer:

distance \: formula \:  =  \sqrt{} (x2 - x1) {}^{2}  + (y2 - y1) {}^{2}

Where, distance between the two points is 5 units, x2 = 1, x1 = 4, y2 = 0 and y1 = P

Substituting the values we get,

5 \:  =  \sqrt{} (1 - 4) {}^{2}  + (0 - p) {}^{2}

5 \:  =  \sqrt{}  ( - 3) {}^{2}   + ( - p) {}^{2}

5 \:  =  \sqrt{9 + p {}^{2} }

Squaring both sides we get,

(5) {}^{2}  \:  =  (\sqrt{} 9 + p {}^{2} ) {}^{2}

25 \:  = 9 + p {}^{2}

25 - 9 = p {}^{2}

16 = p {}^{2}

 \sqrt{16 }  = p

4 = p
