Using the distance formula
10=√(x-1)^2+(15-7)^2
10=√(x-1)^2+64
100=(x-1)^2+64
(x-1)^2=36
→(x-1)=±6

so x=7 or -5

Answer:

-5 or 7

Step-by-step explanation:

Two Points :

(x_1,y_1)=(x,7)

(x_2,y_2)=(1,15)

We are given that  the distance between two points (x,7) and (1,15) is 10

So, to find x we will use distance formula:

d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

(x_1,y_1)=(8,-5)

(x_2,y_2)=(-2,-7)

Substitute the values in the formula :

10=\sqrt{(1-x)^2+(15-7)^2}

10=\sqrt{1+x^2-2x+(8)^2}

10^2=1+x^2-2x+64

100=x^2-2x+65

x^2-2x-35 =0

x^2-7x+5x-35 =0

x(x-7)+5(x-7) =0

(x+5)(x-7) =0

x=-5,7

Hence the value of x is -5 or 7
