If Earth had no atmosphere then we wouldn't have been alive on this Earth. Our atmosphere protects us from harmful radiation. The radiation would have been so intense that the floor crust would be in a liquid boiling state. The radiation is intence enough to heat up the surface to very high degrees. The formation of life happend  because the surrondings were favourable and cool enough. The function of atmosphere is so great that it keeps the air from escaping into outer space and keeps us cool. If we encounter radiation directly then we would surely get skin cancer and other skin related issues.

Atmosphere is a defense mechanism of Earth. Without atmosphere Earth would have been a lava ball.
