Solution :

x² - bx + 1 = 0  has two distinct real roots

D = b² - 4ac  in ax² + bx + c = 0

D < 0  imaginary roots

D  ≥ 0 , real roots

D = 0   equal roots

=> D > 0

(-b)² - 4(1)(1) > 0

=> b² - 4 >  0

=> (b + 2)(b - 2 ) > 0

=> b > 2 or b < -2

b ∈ ( -∞ , - 2) U ( 2 , ∞ )

b ∈ ( -∞ , - 2) U ( 2 , ∞ )
