in this case initial velocity will be greater than final velocity and u will get your answer as minus acceleration i.e deceleration
ex
u = 10 m/s
v = 0 ( as it comes to rest )
T = 5 sec
a = v - u / T
0 - 10 / 5
answer = -2 m/ s ^2
