★ Given:

Arun's room has dimensions 2m x 5m.

Rohan's room has dimensions 5m x 2m.

★ To Find:

Which person would need more carpet to cover the floor.

★ Analysis:

The area of carpet required by both of them will be the area of the floor of their respective rooms. Hence, we can find out who would require more area of carpet.

★ Solution:

Arun's Room

Length = 2 m

Breadth = 5 m

Area of the room = Area of the carpet = lb

= 2 x 5

= 10 m²

Rohan's Room

Length = 5 m

Breadth = 2 m

Area of the room = Area of the carpet = lb

= 5 x 2

= 10 m²

We can see that the area of both Arun's and Rohan's room are the same. So, they both require carpets of area 10 m².

Therefore both Arun and Rohan require carpets of equal area [10 m²].

Important Area Formulae:

→ Area of a square = a²

→ Area of a rectangle = lb

→ Area of a circle = πr²

→ Area of a right angled triangle = 1/2bh

→ Area of a parallelogram = bh

→ Area of a rhombus = bh (or) 1/2 x d1 x d2
