If the grouped data has open end classes, one cannot calculate mode (Option B)
What is Grouped data?
A open end classes which probably do not have lower limits of the first class or the upper limit of the last class is called grouped data.
Why mode cannot calculate grouped data?
- Median, mean and quartiles do not require limits of the class so they can be calculated even when the classes are open ended.
- Mode is the only one here which requires limits of the classes. We know that, group data has classes which are given with lower limits and upper limit.
- Now median, mean and quartiles can be calculated when group data has open ended classes.
- But, mode requires lower limit and upper limit of the modal class and these classes may not have lower limit and upper limit as we are talking about open end classes. So, mode of an open end group class cannot be calculated.
