If the [H+] is 2.1 × 10–12 M HClO4, what is the pH? Is the solution ACIDIC, BASIC, or NEUTRAL?

Answer:

pH = -log [H+]

= -log [2.1 • 10^-12]

= 12 - log 2.1

= 12 - 0.32

pH = 11.68

Since the pH is greater than 7 it’s a basic solution.
