Let the base of the triangle = B m, and so the height = (B-10) m.

Area of the triangle = B(B-10)/2 = 12, or

B(B-10) = 24, or

B^2–10B-24 = 0, or

(B-12)(B+2) = 0, or

B = 12 m and the height = (12–10) = 2 m.

The base of the triangle is 12 m. Answer.
