if the height of a triangle is decreased by 40% and its base is increased by 40% what will be the percentage change in its area

% change in the area will be

-40+40+(-40×+40)/100,

0-16,

-16% (decrease)

area of triangle=1/2*b*h


suppose h=100cm

b=200cm


40%of 100=40

h=60cm

40%of 200=80

b=280cm


original area=1/2*200*100

=10000sq. cm


new area=

1/2*280*60

=8400sq. cm

almost a 1.1% increase.


it varies a/c to base and height. the above is only an example
