Himalayas act as the natural boundary for Indian sub-continent. It protects us from cold Arctic winds, stops monsoon laden winds and prevents intrusion from enemies. If the Himalayas would not have been where they are now, many areas of the country wouldn't have moderate subtropical climate all the year round.

It will get more colder as they stop cold winds coming from that side. And they are also a source of fresh water for irrigation.
