The great Himalayas intercept moisture laden southwest monsoon from Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal and the country receives monsoon rain. Without the Himalayas the whole of India would have turned into a desert. The Himalayas also prevent inflow of cold freezing winds from Central Asia and Siberia to enter India and Northern plains experience mild winters unlike the plains of China. The temperature never falls below freezing point. Without the Himalayas winters would have been severe under influence of cold freezing continental winds from Central Asia.
