We know that median and altitude of equilateral triangle is same.

And,

Altitude = root3 /2 × a

=> x = root3 / 2 × a

=> a = 2x / root3

Area = root3 / 4 × a^2

= root3 × (2x/root3)^2 / 4

= ( root3 × 4x^2 / 3) / 4

= root3 × x^2 / 3

= x^2 / root3 cm^2
